My Chinese Turn
Since 2005, I have devoted myself to Chinese tourism, especially the topic of outbound tourism to the Americas and Europe. This focus started while studying my MBA in Business Administration at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM), from which I graduated with Honours. Early in my professional career I had the opportunity of developing a project in Beijing, China for the government of Mexico City to attract Chinese outbound tourists. After that I was able to continue with this topic in my position as an Economic Analyst in The Economic and Commercial Section of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Mexico.
My knowledge of Chinese outbound tourism was solidified by working as the General Manager of the China Outbound Tourism Research Institute (COTRI). There I was involved in projects related to sales and offline-online marketing, business strategic planning, business development, product – service development and implementation, publication of books and reports, customised research, brand strategy and positioning for companies and organisations such as the China Tourist Academy (CTA), the European Tourism Commission (ETC), the European Tour Operators Association (ETOA), Tarsus Group and Global Blue, among others.
Parallel to my work at COTRI, I started my doctoral studies in the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU-Dept. of Tourism Geography) with the dissertation topic: “Performing tourism: Chinese outbound organized mass tourists on their travels through German tourism stages”.
After four years of work at COTRI, I decided to invest more time in my doctorate studies. Therefore, I used 2013 to finalize my dissertation. At the same time, I kept in touch with the industry while working freelance in different projects.
Since May 2015, I have started the Travel Massive Hamburg Chapter. Travel Massive network community has thousands of members in over 90 cities worldwide and its mission is to unearth and connect travel insiders in every city in the world in order to empower change in travel. Come along to have a chat with interesting and like-minded people with passion for the travel industry.
Through the years, I have gathered experience on performing qualitative and quantitative research and analysis, marketing and social media, international project management, keynote presentations and trainings to industry´s stakeholders, as well as event organization.
Originally from Culiacan, Mexico, I currently live in Hamburg, Germany. In my free time, I enjoy travelling, reading, bike riding, learning about other cultures, dance and languages. Here you can find some photos that go along with my biography of mobility.
